A large, dark diamond-shaped UFO appeared over White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, surprising a few of the residents. The UFO flew east along Highway 60, passing first over Callaghan and then over Covington.

An eyewitness reported, "I was leaving my parents' house and going next door to my apartment when I looked up at the full moon and saw a diamond shape low to the ground. It had yellow outside lights resembling a diamond and inside flashing red and green lights. I watched it heading east for about two minutes until it disappeared over the mountain behind my house...The object made no sound whatsoever. No jet or engine noise. This was truly an unforgettable experience."

A Boeing 737 at 29,500 feet was almost hit by a four-foot-long rocket-shaped object that passed just to the side and slightly below the jet in broad daylight. A weather ballon was suggested as the cause by some investigators, but the sighting occurred 25 minutes before any balloons were launched in the area.

At approximately 1:35 p.m., members of the Williams family were "out watching airplanes" in the yard of their Huntington, West Virginia home. Suddenly, Jason, aged 6, their middle son, pointed out an unusual "bird" to his father. The family watched it zip back and forth across the sky in birdlike fashion. "All of a sudden, it took off at a high rate of speed," heading toward Lesage, W.V. Mrs. Williams described the object as "circular shape, no lights, color is white," estimating its altitude as "30,000 feet (7,575 meters), perhaps higher."
