Two local businessmen observed a dark, gray, metallic sphere, from the top of which projected a dozen "tentacles" over 2 meters long, flying at about 40 meters altitude and then coming down behind a house. It was assumed that it plunged into the bay, but a search by patrol boats was unsuccessful.

A man counted 11 UFOs heading west over Bayonne, New Jersey "as they flew very high in the sky at an incredible speed." Just then, two U.S. Air Force jet interceptors appeared and began chasing the objects. Six dark olive-drab helicopters appeared moments later, trailing the jets and the UFOs. The objects fled in a northeasterly direction, skirting Newark and heading for Kearny and Belleville, New Jersey.

James described the UFO's color as "yellow like an incandescent bulb with a slight silvery shine. Several of the foreign tourists took photographs of them."

While flying at 20,000 ft from a Delaware to a Long Island airbase, the two men in the T-33 spotted an object "round and silver in color" which at one stage of the attempted intercept appeared flat. The T-33 was put into a descending turn to try to close on the object but the latter turned more tightly (the airmen stated) and passed rapidly eastward towards the coast of New Jersey and out to sea.

Early in the evening, two men saw a red glowing object hovering over the woods. They watched as the object descended, hovered, and finally landed. When it was gone, several minutes later, they searched the woods and found a burned crater in a clearing. The Air Force and NICAP investigated. The case was labeled a hoax, but there remains a great deal of doubt about the explanation.

Ron B., a 29-year-old trucker, spotted a classic disc-shaped UFO while driving on Hickston Road in rural Gloucester Township, not far from Glassboro, New Jersey.

Ron reports, "I only saw it for about a minute. The object was about one mile or less in front of me. It was flying very low, possibly at 2,000 feet. The object was light gray and looked two lens shapes, like two pie pans on top of each other. It did not make any sound that I could hear and was going very fast when I saw it. I saw the ship for about one minute, then lost it in the trees. I drove up the road to try and get another look but could not spot it again. I saw it from two angles-- at first headed right at me, then it made a right (turn) and headed south. It did not appear to have windows, and it was more rectangular than round like two pie pans with the edges cut straight."

WAYNE
5/5/96
(RDUP5/12/96)
At approximately 10:12 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, a party of amateur astronomers set up their telescope on a hillside in Wayne, New Jersey. The group hoped to obtain good views of the planet Venus, then prominent on the western horizon.

As the first astronomer peered through the telescope's eyepiece, he saw "a bright flash near Venus." She said, "At first I thought it was some sort of meteor exploding in the upper atmosphere." Another member of the group, who'd set up their telescope on Brandon Avenue near Route 23, said the sky explosion was "a whitish green color."

The first astronomer looked again and saw a gray saucer with "two bright lights on the top of the dome. It was about the size of a two- bedroom house." The amateur astronomer said he had the saucer in view for about 20 seconds. He spotted two transparent "glass blisters" fore and aft of the saucer's dome. The UFO performed no aerobatic maneuvers--it merely hovered in place. At the end of the 20 seconds, it "flew away to the north very fast."

at 10:30 p.m., A woman living in rural Woodstown, New Jersey spotted "an egg-shaped UFO." She described the object as having "a white fuselage, not glowing white but more like solid white. There were two glaring red lights at the tail end, and one glowing green light underneath." She said the UFO was "huge...maybe as big as a football field...moving very fast" at treetop level above the woodland country five miles (8 kilometers) east of Woodstown. "I felt certain it was under intelligent control."
