An Air Force RB-47, equipped with ECM (Electronic Countermeasures) gear,
manned by six officers, was followed over a total distance in excess of
600 miles and for a time period of more than an hour, as it flew from near
Gulfport, Miss., through Louisiana and Texas, and into southern Oklahoma.
The unidentified object was, at various times, seen visually by the
cockpit crew (as an intense white or red light), followed by
ground-radar, and detected on ECM monitoring gear aboard the RB-47.
Simultaneous appearances and disappearances on all three of those
physically distinct "channels" mark this UFO case as especially intriguing
from a scientific viewpoint. The incident is described as Case 5 in the
Condon Report and is conceded to be unexplained.

(UFO Casebook)
A former military officer named Philip Lanning was driving south of town
when suddenly his car coasted to a stop and the radio faded. He got out to
look under the hood, when suddenly an object of "excessive size passed
forward of my position and perhaps two to three hundred feet over my
head." The object was silent except for a sound like the "rushing of an
extreme wind."
Just before reaching a clump of trees, the object tilted upwards, moved to the right, and then accelerated at an angle almost straight up and into the clouds.
Lanning described the object as "like a cymbal on a drum set and was a dirty metallic gray in color on the underside." When it tilted upward, he could see the top, which was colored "like the bluing of a good weapon." No portholes or hatches were visible, and he could hear no sound except for the one mentioned previously. He said of its length, "it could be compared with the length of a house."
Lanning made a report to a friend in Naval Intelligence, who forwarded it to the Air Force. The sighting was investigated by Project Bluebook and declared to be "unidentified".
