At 6:14 p.m. Central time, several people sighted a UFO in
Evansville, a city of 152,000 in the southwestern corner of
Indiana. The witnesses reported "a strange orange ball of light
in the sky moving very slowly." They estimated the UFO's
altitude at 3,000 to 4,000 feet. Suddenly, the UFO accelerated
and split into "four or five smaller globes." These spheres
vanished one by one. Witnesses also claim they saw an F-15 jet
fighter from Scott Air Force Base in pursuit of the UFO.

(Magonia)
A man driving on Highway 135 north of Freetown saw a
plate-shaped object with red, yellow, blue, and white blinking
lights which caused him to lose control of his car and run off
the road. Less than two miles away, another man saw an identical
object that came within 125 feet of his car.
GOSHEN
4/27/50
(McDonald)
An early airline sighting involved the crew and passengers of a
TWA DC-3 on the evening of 4/27/50. The DC-3, piloted by Capt.
Robert Adickes and co-piloted by Capt. Robert F. Manning, was at
about 2000 ft, headed for Chicago, when, at about 8:25 p.m.,
Manning spotted a glowing red object aft of the starboard
wing, well to their rear.
It was similar in appearance to a rising blood red moon,
and appeared to be closing with us at a relatively slow rate of
convergence. I watched its approach for about two minutes,
trying to determine what it might be. Then I attracted Adickes'
attention to the object asking what he thought it was. He rang
for our hostess, Gloria Henshaw, and pointed it out to her. At
that time the object was at a relative bearing of about 100
degrees and slightly lower than we were. It was seemingly
holding its position relative to us, about one-half mile
away.
Capt. Adickes sent the stewardess back to alert the passengers,
and then banked the DC-3 to starboard to try to close on the
unknown object.
As we turned, the object seemed to veer away from us in a
direction just west of north, toward the airport area of South
Bend. It seemed to descend as it increased its velocity, and
within a few minutes was lost to our sight...

(RDUP10/12/97)
At 8 p.m., CPO Ethelred Sharkey, USN, a veteran of the Vietnam
and Persian Gulfwars, was working at the Navy Reserve Station in
Greenwood, Indiana, about 12 miles south of Indianapolis.
Chief Sharkey "was looking to the southeast and a brightly-lit
object 75 to 80 degrees in the sky caught his attention. The
object looked like a star but (was)extremely intense and
appeared to be moving upward. The 'pure white' light was so
intense that he 'couldn't believe it.'"
"The object stayed in a small area as it continued moving upward before eventually appearing as nothing more than a dim star. The object was at its brightest for 15 seconds." Chief Sharkey described the object as similar to "construction night lights" on a highway which "blind you to look at them."

NEW PALESTINE
8/1/97
(RDUP8/3/97)
According to the eyewitness, "I was sitting on my patio,
appreciating the wonderful weather and, of course, watching the
sky. This light in the sky appeared in the south just above the
tree line. There is a woods approximately 1,000 feet (333
meters) behind my house. This light looked like a star and was
about the same brightness and size as Venus, which was also
visible in the west. The strange thing about this was the speed
at which it was moving. It traversed the entire sky in about a
minute and a half, from south to northeast. I thought at first
it might have been a jet, but it was traveling too fast for a
jet at that height. Also there were no flashing lights like
planes usually have. The speed was constant and it moved in a
straight line. I got up and stayed up until I could no longer
see it."
