Dr. Percy Wilkins, one of the world's top astronomers and an
expert on the Earth's moon, saw two egg-shaped objects appear
out of the clouds while on an airplane flight near Atlanta. He
described them as like polished metal dinner plates reflecting
the sunlight. They were later joined by a third object. He
estimated them to be about 50 feet wide.

Eight teens from La Grange High School were camped out near the
Troup/Heard county line the weekend of September 20 and
September 21 when the incidents occurred. At 2:45 a.m. on
Sunday, September 21, a 16-year-old "saw a white meteorite
streak from east to west." He described it as "this brilliant
white round ball had an apparent size of the moon and arched
forward across a third of the sky before disappearing."
Then, at 3:15 a.m., another LGHS student "Looking slightly east
of due north (20 degrees)... saw a clearly-defined and
perfectly-symmetrical white disc-shaped UFO hovering at 40
degrees above the horizon." The camper also noticed that the
moon was in the east-southeast. There were no clouds, and the
visibility was good. "After about 'five minutes,' the UFO shot
off to the north-northwest (340 degrees) at a speed equivalent
to 'lightning.'" The UFO was at an estimated altitude of 400 to
500 feet.

At 10 p.m., a man working at the Dunston Mill in La Grange took
his break and walked to the north end of the plant. "Overlooking
the plant's pond, he saw a large light of whitish-blue in the
northwest. The light had an elliptical shape" and hovered at "30
to 35 degrees above the horizon. The light did not ascend or
descend." Moving slowly eastward, the UFO "slowed down to about
35 miles per hour. When it reached due north of the witness, it
shot away to the west 'faster than a shooting star." The man had
the UFO in view for about 10 minutes.
An hour later, at 11 p.m., a couple at the Callaway "Clock
Tower" on Fourth Avenue in La Grange "saw a strange and
non-moving light in the southwest" sky. They described the UFO
as "neon yellow in color."

At about 10:00 a.m., John A. Anderson, along with what he
estimated at perhaps a hundred other engineers, scientists and
technicians from his group were outside watching a "required
attendance" skit presented from a truck-trailer and
commemorating the 150th anniversary of the founding of the
DuPont company, July 18, 1802. Anderson indicated that someone
less than absorbed in the skit first spotted the unidentified
object in the clear skies overhead, and soon most eyes had left
the skit to watch more technically intriguing events overhead. A
greenish glowing object of no discernible shape, and of angular
size estimated by Anderson to be not over a fifth of full-moon
diameter, was darting back and forth erratically at very high
speed. Anderson had the impression it was at great altitude, but
conceded that perhaps nothing but the complete lack of sound
yielded that impression. It was in view for about two minutes,
moving at all times. He stressed its "phenomenal
maneuverability"; it repeatedly changed direction abruptly in
sharp angle manner, he stressed. The observation was terminated
when the object disappeared over the horizon "at apparently
tremendous velocity."

TALLULAH FALLS

Nine people from three different houses described an object like
a "flying top" that flew silently at treetop height and hovered
over a yard. The lower part was bright red, with three lights on
the upper part. As it left, green light illuminated the area. A
strong odor similar to embalming fluid was noticeable when
police arrived. The next day, witnesses felt a burning
sentsation on their faces and arms.
